OCTOBER 8, 2021 ~ JOURNEY THROUGH THE BIBLE CHRONOLOGICALLY
Updated: Jan 3
OCTOBER 8, 2021 READINGS... Matthew 9:27-34 & Mark 6:1-6 & Matthew 9:35-38 &
Mark 6:7-13 & Matthew 10:1-42 & Luke 9:1-6
Today’s reading begins with Jesus healing two blind men, and a mute man that was possessed by a demon. The Pharisees once again accused Jesus of casting out demons by the power of Satan. They continue to show they are blasphemers, who have no hope of salvation. Jesus is then rejected in His home town of Nazareth. All they could see was this man whose family was citizens of their community. Surely there was nothing special about him. They missed the power and presence of God because their paradigm would not let them see Jesus for who He is. Be very careful…don’t let your preconceived notions, or your limited understanding of Scripture cause you to reject Jesus…the King of Glory.
We read today of Jesus calling His twelve disciples. Nothing seems to be overly special about these men. Reminds me that the Lord doesn’t call the “special”…but when He calls anyone, He makes them special. One would think it would be an honor to be called of Christ, and in the scheme of eternity this is true. But in the reality of everyday life following Jesus…it would not be easy, or honored. They had to trust the Lord for their every provision. They would be like sheep sent out among the wolves. They would experience betrayal…and be hated by all people. They hated Jesus…they would hate His followers. He called them to love Him more than their own family, and to give up all to follow Him. We need to recapture in our day what it really means to follow Jesus.
