JUNE 23 READING…ROMANS 7
Once we come to God in Christ we are dead to the law and alive in Christ Jesus. The only ones that have to fear the law are the law breakers. We are made right with God because Jesus perfectly kept the law…and He perfectly fulfilled the law. He fulfilled it by keeping it perfectly all of His life, and He fulfilled it by paying the price for we who did not and could not keep the law. In Christ we are no longer bound by the letter of the law, which brings us death, but now we are alive in the newness of the Spirit.
If the law brings death, is it bad? No! The law is perfect…it reflects the goodness and the righteousness of God. The problem is not with the law it is with us. It needs to be understood clearly that the law cannot save, and it never could. The law can do nothing but condemn. Since we are condemned by the law, someone has to fulfill the law so that the condemnation can be removed. We humans need help from outside ourselves to make us right with God. Because, once we have broken the law, we are law breakers and condemned. We need the price of our sins to be paid, so that we may be pardoned. The sin we are guilty of brings us death through the law…life comes to us through the substitutionary atonement of Christ.
