JUNE 14 READING…ACTS 28

The last chapter of Acts begins with Paul being shipped wrecked on Malta. God put it in the hearts of the natives to be welcoming and caring to Paul and the people who were on his ship. Paul was bit by a venomous snake, he shook the snake off, and did not even get sick. The natives saw this and thought that Paul must be a god. There was also a wealthy family whose father was very sick…Paul prayed for him and he was healed. This led to the whole island who were sick coming to Paul to receive healing. Paul was on the island for three months, and from there headed toward Rome, finally arriving there.

Paul was allowed in Rome to be by himself…he was even able to have visitors. To the Jewish leaders in Rome Paul shared his journey to this point. Once again, the Jews spoke against Paul. We can expect that when God is working through us that Satan will be raising his ugly head in opposition…don’t be surprised by this. As Paul shared, some responded, while others rejected the Gospel. Paul quotes Isaiah about the fact that the people would get to the point where they would not see or hear the things of God. At times I feel we are in a time like that, the response to the Gospel for many is either apathy or outright rejection. At the end of this book Paul declares that because of the hard hearts of the Jews to the Gospel, now the Lord would begin to work through the Gentiles.
