JULY 25 READING…1 CORINTHIANS 13

How important is love, and what does it look like? We don’t have to wonder about the answer to these questions, the Bible gives them to us in this wonderful chapter. The world tells us that love is a sappy feeling that in constant change…it lasts as long as you have the “feeling” …that’s not what the Bible teaches. The world would have you believe that love is the acceptance of everything that anyone wants, even that which is ungodly and contrary to the Lord…that’s not what the Bible teaches. Love without truth is not love. Love without accountability is not love. Love that accepts that which is contrary to God is not love. Love that does not esteem others higher than self is not love. Paul tells us that love is primary, but at the same time love sets within its God given parameters. One cannot brag about any gift they have, any ministry they are involved in, or even any miracle they have done if they do not have love. Action without love is selfish activity for personal glory…it will not stand in the day of the judgment seat of Christ.

Paul describes what love looks like from a biblical perspective. Love is kind, does not envy, and is not self-serving. It is not rude, does not think in an evil manner, and does not celebrate sinfulness, but it rejoices in the truth. Love in truth believes, bears, and hopes for all things. Love never fails, even when all other things fail. When the end of all things comes there will be three things that remain…faith, hope, and love; but the greatest of these things is love. Oh, how the world desperately needs biblical love…how our homes need biblical love…how our churches need biblical love. We know what love is…now let us walk in love!

Please share your thoughts from today’s reading.
