APRIL 29, 2021 ~ JOURNEY THROUGH THE BIBLE CHRONOLOGICALLY
APRIL 29 READINGS...2 Samuel 17:1-29 & Psalm 3 & Psalm 63 & 2 Samuel 18:1-19:30
What a mess! Look at the trouble that has been brought on the nation of Israel...this actually goes all the way back to God's warning to Israel when they wanted a king. The trouble in the king's house has caused division and death for the nation. This division caused 20,000 men to lose their lives...these men lost their lives for nothing more than family issues in David's house. The consequences of not trusting the Lord has brought such horrible devastation upon the whole nation. 20,000 men died because David did not lead his household right. And even at after 20,000 men died for David and the kingdom he was more concerned with his rebellious son's death than for the loss of these men. Joab rebukes David, because David lost sight of the cost of his poor leadership when it came to his family.
David now returns to Jerusalem and on the way, he meets Shimei who had cursed him and threw rocks at him as left because of Absalom's attempted coup. The king also makes things right with Mephibosheth and Ziba...and we are able to see in Mephibosheth the proper heart toward David and his throne. Life is full of disappointments and opposition, and all our decisions have consequences. These consequences touch the lives of people who really have no part of the decision...many times in a harmful way. This happens in homes, in churches, and even in nations...and these kinds of decisions cost people their lives. We all need the wisdom of the Holy Spirit in all our decisions. We need to wait upon His leadership in order that our decision might the most beneficial affect for the most people. We do not live our lives in a vacuum...we are a part of each other's lives...and we all need to concerned about how our decision affect those around us.
Please share your thoughts and insights from today's reading. Pray for each other that we would have the wisdom of the Holy Spirit in all our decisions.
