APRIL 26 READING…JOHN 14
Some of the most beautiful words ever are spoken from the heart of Jesus to His disciples, and to us, are in this chapter. We don’t have to have a troubled heart…we are called to have faith in the Lord. We can do this because no matter what is going on in our world, Jesus holds eternity. He has prepared eternity for us, and then He promises to come and take us there. Heaven, and all creation belong to God. He is the one who determines how we sinful people can enter into His holy presence…Jesus makes it clear…He is the Way, He is the Truth, and He is the Life! No one can come into the presence of God, nor can they enter into His heavenly home other than through Jesus alone. Jesus again made it clear about His Deity. Philip asked for Jesus to just show them the Father. Jesus responded, “Have I been with you so long, and yet you still do not understand. If you have seen Me, you have seen the Father.”
Jesus then answers the question of Judas (not Iscariot) about how Jesus would manifest Himself in the lives of His followers and not the world. Jesus tells them that those who love Him will keep His word. Those that do not love Him neither have His word, nor can they keep His word. Jesus tells them that the Holy Spirit would come when Jesus departs, and that He would teach them all things. Jesus also promised His peace to His followers. Look around, the world is falling apart, and people are seeking peace, but they cannot find it. Jesus gives the peace that surpasses all human understanding. Then He tells them that it is time for the final purpose for which He came to begin. They leave that place, and they could not begin to understand yet that their world would be turned upside-down. If your world seems upside-down right now, reach out to Jesus, rest in the Holy Spirit, and receive the peace of God.
